Super Cup 2014- The Missing Link

The inaugural School Boy football tournament between Manning and DaCosta Cup teams 'Super Cup 2014' is a welcome sight and has injected new life into the game and the private-quasi public business partnership. However, this new innovation carries bitter-sweet emotions. Why?

A professional activity of mine is to develop concepts/ideas on intentionally designed methodological platforms. This quasi-scientific dynamic process creates potentially fertile environments wherein practicability, measurability, and sustainability can all be represented and further developed for application and developmental progress.

In 2005, I embarked on one such project using cyber world as a media platform. The impetus for my inquiry was improving the quality, economics and professionalism of the Jamaica School-Boy Football game in a holistic sense with inter-connectivity between past, present and the future.

In brain storming this concept it was necessary to use a fish-bone method to demonstrate concept practicality and the incorporation of individual programmatic elements into the big picture. The goal was to create a marketable idea which could serve as a catalyst to assist past, current and future Footballers. In essence, a designed economic stimulus for a niche and overlooked population.

The Concept: “Design and implement a restructuring plan for the High School Football game to include  ‘tournament/bowl’ games to be played between Manning Cup and DaCosta Cup teams to determine the ‘true champion’ of School Boy Football. This would be accomplished using the existing system and marketing the games in a hyped and business environment”.

This concept modules include: socio-scholastic-economic and athletic elements on which viable altruistic and sustainable business initiatives could be generated. The three Program Goals identified were: 1) Room and Board scholarships for College bound High School Football seniors 2) Public- Private Supplemental Insurance for past Manning and DaCosta Cup players and 3) a competitive business proposal program for past players.

In 2008, the concept was formalized and sent (verifiable) in good faith to a major stakeholder for discussion purposes. The good faith discussion invitation never occurred; however, in 2014 reportedly a certain quasi-public-private agreement appeared to have been formalized between two major entities in the form of a ‘Super Cup Tournament’. The basis for the agreement bears an undeniable striking material resemblance to my original design and a claim has been asserted. The four corners of my reasoning and basis for this claim can be view at: http://jamschoolfootball.blogspot.com/?m=0

In asserting this Intellectual Property claim and the reality of the legal environment it is necessary to provide for convenience the following definitions:

Intellectual Property: Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce.
IP is protected in law by, for example, patents, copyright and trademarks, which enable people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they invent or create. By striking the right balance between the interests of innovators and the wider public interest, the IP system aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish.

Defamation:  Making of false derogatory statement(s) in private or public.
